TO USE THE WEB-BASED VERSON OF MCYC_bbs

The web-based version of the BBS is at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MCYC_bbs

The advantages of using the web-based version is that you can search and view all messages posted to the BBS, as well as all attachments and files that were uploaded.  In addition, you can post to the group or reply privately to individual members.  Lastly, you will receive no emails.

Every member has been directly subscribed to MCYC_bbs.  However, to use the BBS, each member must also sign up with Yahoo (no cost), which sponsors the service.  This means that you must tell Yahoo your email address and obtain a Yahoo ID and password.

The procedure provided by Yahoo for signing up with it after you have been subscribed to a group is straightforward, although it is a little confusing if you don’t understand the arrangement on Yahoo.  The following procedure should work for you:

1.  Print this frame or page on your local printer and use it to guide you.

2.  Go to MCYC_bbs by clicking here or pointing your web browser to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MCYC_bbs

3.  Yahoo will tell you that you are not recognized as a member or subscriber of the group.  This is because Yahoo can’t yet tie you to the email address that was entered for you when you were subscribed to MCYC_bbs by the club.

4. On the right side of the page, click Conversion Wizard.

5.  On the next screen, under Don’t have a password?, enter your email address and click Continue.

6. An authorization code will be emailed to you instantaneously.  Open your email and copy the code in the email to the next Yahoo screen in the box provided.

7.  You will then be guided in a straightforward fashion to apply for a Yahoo ID and password.  It is suggested that you use your email ID (“Smith99” if your email address is “smith99@aol.com”) as your Yahoo ID.  For your password, pick something you will remember, like “boat” or “masthead.”

After signing up, you will be able to visit the BBS home page and access all its features.  You might be asked for your Yahoo ID and password.

There are many other groups on Yahoo.  You can search for them by type and join them as well.
